Picasso is considered Alberta's first Sport Pony stallion. A multiple Supreme Champion, Sport Pony Champion and 2009 WPCSC Section B Welsh Pony Sire of the Year. His expressive movement, presence and self-carriage proved why he was a winner both in and out of the show ring! Combined with his great conformation and exceptionally quiet attitude, he has sired several top American hunter ponies. For many years, Picasso has been listed on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Sires List due to his offsprings success in the hunter ring in the US, which is a feat that's been done by a very few Canadian stallions. Picasso's Farnley and Shenandoah breeding have made his foals extremely competitive on the pony hunter circuit. He has finished in the Top 10 on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Breeding Sire List multiple years and finished 12th on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Sire List in 2021.
The Picasso son, Daventry's Power Play, is the first Canadian-bred Section B Welsh Pony approved ISR/Oldenburg, RPSI and accepted with the Westphalian Verband. He is also a U.S. and Canadian National Welsh Champion and won back to back Stars of the West Sport Pony Finals in 2013 & 2014. The Picasso's daughter, Cajonat's Encore, is a Premium ISR/Oldenburg Mare and was the #1 ISR/Oldenburg pony mare in North America in 2013 and Top 5 RPSI pony mare in North America in 2012. Picasso is also the sire of Daventry's Nightlife, a 3/4 Welsh filly who received Premium Foal status with the Oldenburg GOV (Weser-Ems Pony), was the 2013 WPCSC Canadian National Reserve Champion Half Welsh 2 & Under and finished #3 in Zone 2 for Pony Hunter Breeding Yearlings.
Daventry's da Vinci, a Welsh/TB cross pony by Alvesta Picasso placed 9th over fences and 11th overall out of 153 ponies in the Regular Large Pony Hunters at the 2022 USEF Pony Hunter Finals. In 2018, he was 7th Nationally and 2nd in Zone 3 for Large Pony Hunters.
Picasso was not started under saddle until the age of seventeen. He proved to be as easy to start under saddle as his babies and was an uncomplicated ride. Eager to please, a quick learner, wonderful gaits to sit and went in a rubber snaffle. After only two weeks under saddle, he attended his first show and proved his outstanding and patient temperament during pouring rain, a tractor pull taking place right next to the show ring and Fair spectators standing along the sidelines with kids, balloons and various animals! His short 2007 under saddle career finished with an Alberta Welsh Year-End Award as Reserve Champion Senior Western Pleasure.
Picasso has sired several successful Sport Pony broodmares, whose offspring are just entering the show ring. He has consistently stamped his beautiful babies with lovely hunter movement, outstanding jumping form, superior conformation and his exquisite head. He has also consistently sired babies with courage and a willing attitude, which has made them easy to start under saddle and progress to the show ring.

Picasso has many top hunter ponies in his pedigree. Blue Rain and Cymraeg Rain Beau, by the stallion Farnley Lustre, have consistently been at the top of the USEF Pony Hunter Sire List each year. Farnley Lustre has been called the "sire of the century". He was the sire of some of America's top hunter pony stallions, including Smoke Tree Mountain Ash, Farnley Belshazzar, Helicon Epic and Long Acres Spinoff. GlanNant Bard, out of GlanNant Sonnet, also listed on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Sire List, was previously named National and Supreme Champion Section B on the WPCSA Welsh circuit.

We have a "Welcome Home" policy for all horses & ponies that we have bred, sold or that are sired by any of our stallions. Should an owner ever find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, or a horse or pony is in need of retirement, they may be returned to our farm at any time.
